THE CLIENT BRIEF – “FEMININE TOUCH”
The project undertaken was for a client residing in Amritsar, India. On having a quick chat with her we could evaluate her taste and style was feminine, elegant, subtle and minimalistic. Here’s how we started building up on the creative direction for the project.
The colour thread running throughout the room concept includes the shades depicted as shown.
SPACE PLANNING ILLUSTRATED
The furniture requirements for the room stated by the client were:
Bed – Four poster or tufted
Day Bed/ Lounger – Optional
Study table + chair
console or cabinet
lounge chair + coffee end table
wall art concept
Lighting solutions as per concept
Existing floor plan was as illustrated.
FURNITURE PLACEMENT OPTION 1
Re-envisioning the room as a blank canvas we started with giving the client best possible space planning options. In option 1 – As you enter the room the front wall has a console, that could be used for decorative purposes or as a TV unit followed by a study table serving as a source of home work space for the designer. The main feature of the room was stressed more on having a four poster bed with clean lines. Accent furniture pieces to best suit the bed, a statement lounge chair for the client to curl up at the end of a tiring day with light sources in all forms and night stands accompanying the tall standing bed. A chaise lounge in front of the bed would solve the extra sitting problem and would be handy at all times.
FURNITURE PLACEMENT OPTION 2
Option 2 has the console shifted from the front wall to the left wall on entry to the room. The front wall now has the study placed right at the center parallel to the bed with the statement lounge chair moved at the right corner next to the window door of the room making it a personalized cozy corner. This leaves the bed with night stands and a sleek bench in front keeping the whole look running.
FURNITURE PLACEMENT OPTION 3
In option 3 the console stays at the front wall with the statement lounge chair at the right corner. We have additional sitting option for the room, which includes two lounge chairs and a coffee table. The bed is accompanied by one night stand instead of two this time, being replaced by a study table.
FURNITURE PLACEMENT OPTION 4
In option 4 the console and statement lounge chair remain at the same position. An addition of a night stand is made to the bed setting with the study table followed by a chaise lounge at the bed foot. Removing the extra sitting of lounge chairs.
INSPIRATION – VISUAL REFERENCING
To capture the essence of the look, which the client desired, a range of visuals were shown to her that could make it easy to identify the key elements and the overall look to be achieved and worked upon.
FEEDBACK & FINAL CONCEPT BOARD
Being a working professional catching up with the client was difficult. Nonetheless we managed to catch up with her and grasp the necessary details and type of elements she was looking for her bedroom. We figured out gloss finish was out , matte was what she liked, nothing to shiny but a few touches of luxe subtle glam would give the necessary aesthetic look. Four poster bed was finalized. Furniture placement Option 1 did much justice to what she visioned. We further went through these details to put up the final design concept for the room.
